Ontario, CA

• Lead a team of 4 DBAs, built largely by developing people rather than hiring in: trained two junior engineers from entry level through to production support, brought an internal colleague onto the DBA track after identifying their aptitude and interest, and onboarded an experienced hire. Two of the four support this project; the other two now support other project teams.
• Administer 3 production Always On Availability Group clusters, two nodes each, holding roughly 440 databases in total. The largest node carries 400 databases with 100 AG-synchronized to its secondary and 50 under cell-level encryption; the other two clusters run around 20 databases each, fully synchronized, with 10 encrypted apiece. 7 TB of data and log files on the largest node.
• Maintain separate QA, staging, and development environments alongside production, spanning SQL Server 2012 through 2022.
• Migrated that 400-database estate off a SQL 2012 active/passive failover cluster onto SQL 2016 Always On Availability Groups, and subsequently on to SQL 2019 - re-architecting high availability rather than only stepping the version forward. Separately migrated a SQL 2014 cluster onto a SQL 2022 AG cluster.
• Ran roughly six live production cutovers in total, scripting and replaying instance-level configuration - logins and SID mappings, SQL Agent jobs, linked servers, credentials, and certificates - so applications came up clean after each cutover.
• Hold per-database key custody for every CLE-enabled database in the estate, keeping certificates and master keys documented and recoverable - without the right master key an encrypted database cannot be decrypted after a restore into a new environment, which makes key custody a recoverability problem rather than only a security one.
• Operate SQL Server across AWS EC2, Amazon RDS, and Azure, working through the configuration and administrative differences between self-managed IaaS instances and managed platform database services.
• Deployed and own SQL Sentry and Redgate SQL Monitor across the SQL Server estate, configuring alert thresholds, performance baselines, and escalation policies so performance and availability problems surface as alerts rather than as user-reported outages.
• Designed and implemented an end-to-end CI/CD pipeline in Azure DevOps covering front-end, back-end, and database deployments, using build/release pipelines and state-based database projects to keep application and schema changes moving through environments in a controlled, repeatable way.
• Built PowerShell and T-SQL automation for database backups and production monitoring, replacing manual checks with scheduled jobs that report failures and anomalies directly to the team.
• Built a centralized application log retention platform on AWS: application logs flow through an SQS queue to a Lambda writer into Elasticsearch running on EKS, with Kibana giving application support self-service log analysis. Implemented the retention model with index templates, age- and size-based index rollover, and automated deletion of aged indexes.
• Designed and proved out a federated data-sharing architecture using Databricks Delta Sharing and Unity Catalog, letting partner organizations query curated reference data without the underlying regulated records (for example clinical trial and other sensitive data) ever leaving their source environment - validated cross-cloud with the querying application running in GCP and the data owner's storage in AWS S3, with per-recipient access revocation.
• Manage Databricks workspaces and built a Lakeview cost-attribution dashboard over Unity Catalog system tables that prices raw DBU consumption in USD and attributes spend by workspace, feature, user, project, and cluster.
• Own the organization's GitHub Copilot and Claude for Teams rollout: seat and license policy, model selection guidance by use case, org-level custom instructions, least-privilege review of MCP connectors before enablement, and AI credit and cost monitoring against budget.
• Set up and maintain AWS services including EKS and ECS.

Koratty, India

• Owned database backup strategy and recoverability for production systems, maintaining strict controls over backup verification, retention, and point-in-time recovery.
• Configured and maintained Always On Availability Groups for both high availability and disaster recovery of critical business systems, including DR planning, failover readiness, and secondary-replica backup offloading.
• Diagnosed and tuned long-running and blocking queries using DMVs, wait statistics, Extended Events, SQL Server Profiler, Windows Performance Monitor, Redgate, and SQL Sentry, working from measured evidence rather than assumption.
• Implemented cell-level encryption with certificates and master keys to protect sensitive columns in HIPAA- and PCI-scoped databases, and owned key custody, documentation, and recovery across the encrypted estate - keeping master keys recoverable so an encrypted database could still be restored into a new environment.
• Supported projects under PCI DSS, HIPAA, and HITRUST security standards, including annual PCI scan data preparation and audit evidence requests.
• Hardened server- and database-level security by provisioning Windows and SQL logins with least-privilege server roles, database roles, and object-level permissions.
• Migrated SQL Server workloads to cloud, configuring AWS FSx, Amazon RDS for SQL Server, and Azure SQL as migration targets, and carried the supporting instance-level configuration across each cutover.
• Created and scheduled maintenance plans for index reorganization/rebuilds and statistics updates across production databases.
• Advised on disk, processor, and memory capacity planning as workloads grew.
• Installed and configured SQL Server (2012 through 2019) and SQL Services, and applied patches, service packs, and cumulative updates across SQL Server and Windows Server.
• Configured Database Mail, Linked Servers, Change Data Capture (CDC), and Change Tracking (CT) to support application integration and downstream data consumers.
• Delivered 24x7 production support for database and application issues, and prepared status and activity metrics tracking DB service delivery, planned and unplanned outages, and key performance metrics.
• Built reports using SSRS and gathered reporting requirements directly from client stakeholders in recurring working sessions.
• Integrated HL7 healthcare data through the Mirth Connect integration engine.
• Developed and tested automation using shell scripting, and supported bulk data extracts for other teams via the BCP utility.
